Companion movie review


 On Groundhog's day, I saw the movie Companion with a friend of mine at the Mountainside movie theater. The reason why I picked that movie is because me and my friend enjoyed the trailer for it when we saw One of Them Days. Since Groundhog's day was on a Sunday this year, we decided to go see it. It was a coincidence. 

It was about this lady named Iris who is dating Josh. They met at a grocery store and they fell in love. Later on, Iris and Josh went on a vacation to an isolated lake house with their friends Kat, Patrick and Eli. Kat's boyfriend Sergey owns that lake house. They have fun with their friends at first. The next day, as Iris looks at the view of the lake, Sergey greets her and wants her to put sunscreen on him. Sergey tries to seduce and assault Iris but she stabs him to death. She tells her boyfriend Josh and her friend Kat but Josh tells her to go to sleep and she blacks out. 

Iris is then tied to a chair and wakes up. Josh tells her that she is a robot for companionship and pleasure. Iris had been shipped to Josh's apartment and the first meeting at the grocery store was a simulation.  He also programmed her to kill Sergey so that way Josh and Kat can get Sergey's million dollar fortune. Iris feels hurt and betrayed. All Iris wanted was love and Josh betrayed her. Kat, Patrick and Eli were all Josh's friends, not Iris's friends. Iris tries to escape by going into Josh's self driving car. It turns out the car can only be activated by Josh's voice. 

Iris talks to a police officer and tries to tell him what happened. It turns out Kat changed the language for Iris from English to German. Patrick was also a companion robot like Iris. Patrick beats up the police officer half to death. 

Back at the lake house, Josh sets Iris's intelligence to zero and makes her put her hand on a candle. Her skin melts off and shows her robotic hand. She later commits suicide by shooting herself, but luckily she was brought back to life eventually. The robot company that created Iris rebooted her. Iris tries to persuade Patrick to not hurt her and think about his love of Eli. Patrick becomes overwhelmed with guilt and commits suicide by taser. Luckily, Iris takes control of her life, breaks up with Josh and kills him with an electric corkscrew. Josh was a bad guy who took advantage of Iris. She later leaves the lake house and drives back home. 

I would rate it a 10 out of 10. The reason why is because I liked the plot as well as the characters. It was brilliantly written. I would recommend  it highly!

He wrote the music for Beauty and the Beast as well as Little Shop of Horrors. I like him because he wrote music for Broadway as well as for the movies and both of these were made into movies.  Here is a young Stephen Sondheim at an event  Another one I enjoy is Stephen Sondheim. He wrote the music for Gypsy, Company, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Follies, just to name a few. He had a very long and legendary career on Broadway. Sondheim was a trailblazer. When he passed away in 2021 the loss was immense. Even the Broadway lights dimmed for him. A lot of famous people posted on social media their condolences and their memories of him. My weekend trip to Pennsylvania and Upstate New York

This is the Delaware River On June 21-23 I was at my friend Mike's river home in Damascus, Pennsylvania. It is right by the Delaware River. Mike's mom picked me up from New Jersey and took me to Pennsylvania. When I got there Mike and his girlfriend Lesley were happy to see me. I am also good friends with Lesley. We played a game of Trouble and on Friday night we went to an Italian restaurant called Peppino's. Peppino's is in the Catskills in Callicoon, New York. I got spaghetti and red sauce. It was very delicious. After dinner, we watched the movie The Sandlot on TV. It was a good movie.  This was my dinner at Peppino's On Saturday morning, me, Mike and Lesley had pancakes for breakfast. Mike and his dad made them. They were scrumptious!  After breakfast, we watched the Delaware river go by. For lunch, we went back to Callicoon to the Kitchen Table. I had a BLT and Mike and Lesley had grilled cheese. It was good! We saw the movie Inside Out two in the Callico...

My weekend trip June 21-23

Callicoon Theater, Callicoon, NY Usually I use this blog for movie reviews, Broadway musicals, etc. But I also love doing certain things with some friends of mine.  This weekend I am going to my friend Mike's family river home in Damascus, Pennsylvania. It is right on the Delaware River. Mike's girlfriend Lesley is going with us along with Mike's parents and his dogs Trooper and Elsie.  On Friday night, we are going to a restaurant called Peppino's. Peppino's is an Italian restaurant in Callicoon, New York. I have been there in the past and their food is so good!  On Saturday, Mike is going to make some pancakes for breakfast. Then all three of us are seeing the sequel to the movie Inside Out in the Callicoon Theater. It is going to be a good movie.  On Sunday, I am going back to New Jersey from Pennsylvania.
