The Long Walk review

On Wednesday, September 17th, I saw the Long Walk at the AMC in West Orange. It was based on a novel written by Stephen King. Many of his works were turned into movies and TV Shows.

It was about the United Sates being taken over by a military regime. A second Civil War has happened and the US is in ruins.

The leader of the regime is called the Major. It is unknown about what is real name is. Every year e runs event called the Long walk. Many teenage boys are selected at random to participate. The young people start at the Canadian border for the Long Walk.

Ray Garraty was one of these boys that was selected. He meets the other people such as Richard Harkness, Peter McVires, Arthur Baker, Hank Olsen, Collie Parker, etc. Ray and Peter form a close bond. The Major gives the young men water and rations. He said that the rules are if the contestants stop they will get three warnings and than they will get killed. The Major stated that they walk until there is one of them left.

After that, the young men start walking across America.

A young man named Tomas Curley has a charley horse in his foot and is the first person to be shot and killed. It was very shocking to see it.

When someone wins the Long Walk, they get one wish and a cash prize. One of them must survive. Peter's wish is to make the world a better place. Ray wants to kill the Major because the Major shot and killed Ray's father. Billy Stebbins, who is one of the young men on the Long walk discloses that the Major is his father and if he wins, he will force him to accept him as his own.

The young men walk for five days and 300 miles. A huge crowd is gathered to see who the winner is. Peter wanted to sit down but Ray tells him to keep going. He does that and Ray stopped walking. Ray ends up getting killed by the Major and Peter is declared the winner.

Peter gets a cash prize and gets his one wish. Peter wanted to fulfill Ray's wish and killed the Major. After that, Peter keeps walking.

I enjoyed this movie because Stephen King happens to be one of the most prolific authors of all time. I enjoyed the plot as well. I enjoyed the bravery of the characters.  I give this movie a 9 out of 10.
