A Complete Unknown - Movie Review

Image
This is the movie poster for A Complete Unknown On December 30, 2024 I saw the Bob Dylan biopic called A Complete Unknown . I saw it in the AMC Mountainside with some friends. It is about the life and career of  Bob Dylan before he became famous. It was set during the early 1960's. He had moved to New York City from Minnesota, looking for his hero, Woody Guthrie. It turns out that Woody Guthrie was hospitalized at the time in Graystone Psychiatric Hospital due to a condition called Huntington's Disease. Dylan goes to the hospital to visit Guthrie and he meets Pete Seeger, a famous folk singer who ended up helping Dylan's musical career. While at the hospital, Bob Dylan played a song dedicated to Guthrie called "Songs of Woody". My favorite part of the movie was when Dylan was beginning to get famous and did a duet with Joan Baez at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. They sang "It Ain't Me, Babe." It was at a later Newport Folk Festival that...

Movie review of Wicked Part One

Image
On November 23rd, I saw Wicked Part One with my best friend in the theater in South Orange. It was based on the 2003 Broadway musical of the same name and a book by Gregory  Maguire in 1995.  It was about the backstory of Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch of the North. It takes place before the events of Dorothy Gale in the Wizard of Oz.   The movie starts out with the opening number "No One Mourns the Wicked" and people celebrating the death of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba. Then Glinda appears and confirms that Elphaba is dead. After Glinda tries to leave, someone asks her if Glinda and Elphaba were friends. She says yes and tells the people her and Elphaba's backstory.  Glinda and Elphaba attended a college in Oz called Shiz University. Elphaba was dropping off her sister Nessarose who is in a wheelchair. After Madame Morrible who is the Dean of Sorcery at Shiz University sees Elphaba's magical powers she accepts Elphaba i...

My review of Smile 2

Image
On October 26, I saw the sequel to Smile. It was called Smile 2. It was about a famous pop singer named Skye Riley who is preparing for a comeback tour.  She had a highly publicized battle with substance abuse and she was injured in a car accident which killed her boyfriend Paul Hudson, a famous actor. During rehearsals for her comeback tour, Skye injured her back while dancing. She sneaks out without her assistant's knowledge to get some Vicodin. Her dealer and former classmate Lewis comes out of his room in a manic state, scared and gets possessed by the Smile demon. He smiles at Skye and smashes a weight plate onto his face. He dies instantly. Skye is traumatized by this and flees.  Skye later experiences hallucinations and is deteriorating mentally. She attends a Grammy/MusicCares event and sees a hallucination of her late boyfriend, Paul Hudson who died in that car accident. She screams and causes a scene at the event. Skye then contacts her ex best friend Gemma to keep h...

Whippany Railway Museum 2024

Image
On October 13th, I went to the Whippany Railway Museum with some friends of mine for the Pumpkin Train ride. Before I went on the train, I saw many historical trains.  I saw a display of the Titanic inside a small building by the train tracks. The small building has a gift shop as well as some other exhibits. The Titanic display was very interesting. It was interesting because you got to see the plates people used on the boat as well as a model of the lifeboat use when the Titanic sank.  I went walking around the outside area of the museum.  I saw a green train that belonged to Morris County Central. It looked like it belonged in the 1800's. It was from the early 20th century. It was really vintage.  The Pumpkin Train Ride started at 4:00 pm. Me and my friends all went to the caboose area. The train was decorated in Halloween decor.  It went through Whippany to Roseland, through Morris County. It was fun and relaxing. After it was over, we went off the tra...

The Wild Robot review

Image
In the end of September, I saw The Wild Robot in Mountainside, NJ. It was about a robot named ROZZUM 7134 or Roz for short who was washed up and abandoned into a forest island with many animals. She wanders the island and later finds an orphaned gosling. She befriends a fox named Fink. Together Roz and Fink raise the gosling they named Brightbill.  He helps Roz raise Brightbill as her own child. They teach Brightbill how to swim and the other geese mock the gosling for his size and call Roz a monster. It was around the summertime when this takes place.  Eventually, Brightbill needs to learn how to fly so he can go south for the winter. Roz helps Brightbill to fly.  They later meet up with the other geese and meet Longneck who is an elderly goose. Brightbill and the other geese fly south for the winter. Roz is heartbroken and tries to return to her headquarters. She is later retrieved by Vontra who is another fellow robot. Vontra tries to erase Roz's memories of the...

What I did for my 29th birthday

Image
My 29th birthday was this past September. Me and my mom had salads from the Millburn Deli for lunch. After that I got my nails done. And then, later, I went to NYC to meet my dad. I took Uber from NJ to NYC.  We had dinner at an Italian restaurant called Osteria Delbianco. It was on East 49th Street, right by the theater district. For appetizers I had a Caesar salad and prosciutto con burrata. It was really delicious! For my main course I had some spaghetti with tomato sauce and sausages. It was so good! After that I has some dessert. I had a chocolate brownie with some vanilla gelato, which was really rich. The waiters sang happy birthday to me and I was surprised!  My birthday dinner.  After dinner was over, me and my dad saw a Broadway musical called The Outsiders. It rook place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967. It was about Ponyboy Curtis and his friends. Ponyboy was raised by his brothers Soda Pop and Darrel. The Greasers and the Socs are enemies. The Socs are more u...

My Review of Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice

Image
On September 7th I saw the sequel, Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice with my friend, Jessy. We saw it in the Mountainside movie theater.  The movie was about Lydia Deetz and her daughter Astrid. Lydia is now a host of a talk show called Ghost House. Astrid, in her teens, attends a boarding school. Lydia's father, Charles, passed away and Delia, Lydia's stepmother, is heartbroken. Lydia and Delia take Astrid out of boarding school for Charles' funeral.  Beetle Juice comes back after someone says his name three times.  I rated this movie an 8 out of 10. There were some funny parts that I liked, such as Beetle Juice playing the guitar singing "Right Here Waiting" to Lydia. But there were some parts that I didn't like the sandworms because they were scary. Overall, it did have some funny parts. But it was just fair, in my opinion. Did you see it? If so, what would you rate it?  Leave a comment below.
