My weekend trip June 21-23

Image
Callicoon Theater, Callicoon, NY Usually I use this blog for movie reviews, Broadway musicals, etc. But I also love doing certain things with some friends of mine.  This weekend I am going to my friend Mike's family river home in Damascus, Pennsylvania. It is right on the Delaware River. Mike's girlfriend Lesley is going with us along with Mike's parents and his dogs Trooper and Elsie.  On Friday night, we are going to a restaurant called Peppino's. Peppino's is an Italian restaurant in Callicoon, New York. I have been there in the past and their food is so good!  On Saturday, Mike is going to make some pancakes for breakfast. Then all three of us are seeing the sequel to the movie Inside Out in the Callicoon Theater. It is going to be a good movie.  On Sunday, I am going back to New Jersey from Pennsylvania. Come back next week and I will tell you all about my trip and my movie review on Inside Out 2.  What are your plans for the summer weekend?

My Review of Furiosa, a Mad Max Saga

Image
On June 4th I saw the movie Furiosa, a Mad Max Saga. It is a prequel and it happens before the events of Mad Max Fury Road. Furiosa was kidnapped from her homeland by Dementus and his Biker Horde.  Eventually, Furiosa plans her revenge on the Biker Horde because they had tortured and killed her mother.  I rated this movie a 7 out of 10. The reason is that there were some parts I liked such as the action. But the character of Immortan Joe frightened me. His physical appearance and mask were scary.  I also didn't like Dementus' personality because he was a tyrant who ruled Gastown.  The character that I liked was Furiosa because she wanted to avenge her mother and she was brave, as well. Have you seen it? If so, did you like it. Leave a comment below. By IMDb.  Fair use

How I rate Broadway musicals

Image
I rate Broadway musicals. I rate them 1-10. 1 being awful and 10 being brilliant. I have seen many Broadway musicals in the past; some were good and some were bad. There are some musicals that were bad such as The Book of Mormon. I think the music is mediocre. The plot is also not great. I would rate this a 4 out of 10. There was some funny moments though. The Broadway musical I really enjoyed was Hadestown. I would rate that musical a 10. It is a musical based off Orpheus and Eurydice, a love story from Greek mythology. In the musical Orpheus is a poor musician and Eurydice is his love interest. Orpheus wants to bring his wife Eurydice back from the underworld and from Hadestown. I adored the music as well as the plot. Anais Mitchell did a phenomenal job writing the music as well as the Broadway show itself. Comment on what your favorite Broadway musical is.

Murder on the Orient Express review

Image
Usually I prefer musicals, but Murder on the Orient Express is one of my favorite plays. I saw it last spring at the Paper Mill Playhouse. I enjoyed it a lot.  I saw the Papermill Playhouse premiere in April 2023 It was based on a book by Agatha Christie. It was about a detective, Hercule Poirot, who solved the murder of a wealthy tycoon who was killed while traveling on the Orient Express train. It turns out that before the tycoon was murdered, he had kidnapped and killed a young girl by the name of Daisy Armstrong. Hercule questions everyone on the train and finally solves the murder. I especially liked the set design. It was so realistic, fancy and upper class. The actors did a phenomenal job.   There were several adaptations- movie and plays - of Murder on the Orient Express.  Which one did you see?

Broadway Music and My Favorite Composers

Image
I would like to tell you about my favorite composers. These composers made an impact on the stage as well in music. Here is Alan Menken in his recording studio  Alan Menken was one of my favorites. He wrote the music for Beauty and the Beast as well as Little Shop of Horrors. I like him because he wrote music for Broadway as well as for the movies and both of these were made into movies.  Here is a young Stephen Sondheim at an event  Another one I enjoy is Stephen Sondheim. He wrote the music for Gypsy, Company, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Follies, just to name a few. He had a very long and legendary career on Broadway. Sondheim was a trailblazer. When he passed away in 2021 the loss was immense. Even the Broadway lights dimmed for him. A lot of famous people posted on social media their condolences and their memories of him. Here is Andrew Lloyd Webber during a Phantom photoshoot Another composer I like is Andrew Lloyd Webber. He wrote the music to Phantom of the Opera, Starligh

Chiller Theater 2024

Image
On April 27th I went to the Chiller Theater convention at the Hilton hotel  in Parsippany, New Jersey. It is a convention with pop culture and celebrity culture. You meet many famous people there.  I got to the Hilton Hotel at 9:15 AM and I got my wristband. My friend and I  met in the lobby.  My friend met William Shatner, but I never got into Star Trek. However, I like Lita Ford. She was in the Runaways with Joan Jett and she was nicknamed the Queen of Heavy Metal. I met her and she was nice to me. She told me to rock on!  Me and my friend doing devil horns with the Queen of Heavy Metal herself  Next we met Charo, She is a famous Mexican guitarist and actress. She was on the Love Boat and the Tonight Show. She was in Hollywood Squares as well. She was very enthusiastic and energetic when met her. She was amazing!  Us with Charo! Cuchi Cuchi!  Another famous person I met was Chris Kattan. The Roxbury guys is one of my favorite SNL sketches. He smiled at me and my friend. We got a pic

Broadway Musicals

Image
Broadway has been a big part of my life since childhood. My earliest memory is seeing Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. It was glorious. The music was good but I really liked the costumes. They were beautiful and colorful. I also remember going to the Paper Mill Playhouse. This is close to my home. The first play I saw there was Guys and Dolls. It was either 20003 or 2004. I really liked the music in this one. And the best thing about the Paper Mill Playhouse is that it's a historical building. It has been open since 1938 and it's very beautiful. What was the first musical you saw? And where did you see it?
